Studio Facilities

WCRT is primarily involved in the provision of Radio services and has built up a collection of fully-equipped professional broadcast sound studios flexible enough for almost any audio programming need. WCRT is also home to a UK Online Centre (WCRT Centre) - whereby anyone can 'drop-in' and use our IT suite in order to develop their computing skills in accordance with the UFI's UK Online scheme.

Studio A

Studio A has recently undergone a radical overhaul coupled with a complete refit to make it a highly versatile yet extremely user-friendly broadcast studio.

Studio B

Studio B is our latest studio to undergo a refit. It has been kitted out to match Studio A, so that we can switch between studios for on-air programmes. At the moment we don't have photos of this just yet... However, we've dug into the archive and found a couple of items from our recent history...

The actual studio mixers in Studio A & B were previously in use at BBC Radio. We were lucky enough to make arrangements with Radio 1 & Radio 4 to purchase these when they had their own refit. Here's Radio 1's Vernon Kay using them before they were taken out.

Studio C

Studio C is our production studio. It was specially designed and built to accommodate our intensive training schedules, on-air broadcast and/or production needs. Studio C is essentially split into 2 distinct areas: The Control Room and The Talks Room.

The Control Room (above, first picture) is the main hub of the studio's operations. From here we can perform full broadcast activities or make use of the advanced digital editing facilities.

The Talks Room (above, second picture) is situated directly alongside the Control Room (look through the window and you'll see the Control Room). This is used for larger programming activities. For example, an in-depth discussion programme - the producer/engineer will operate the programme from the Control Room with the Presenter and their guest/s will be in the Talks Room.

Studio D

Studio D is our smallest studio - but no less capable than the others. It's equipped with a complete broadcast desk (relocated from our original studio B before it's refit) and can be used to put together and produce anything from programme features to full pre-recorded programmes. When the time comes it will be our News & Sport Presentation studio.

Talk Studio & IT Suite

The Talks Studio / IT Suite is based in our Multi-purpose Training Room. It's home to our UK Online Centre (more details about UK Online at ukonlinecentres.com/consumer/), the Talks Room (see Studio C above), and our mini-studio (above, first picture) where we can conduct telephone or 'down-the-line' interviews without tying up a whole studio in the process.
