This project reclaims a largely overlooked female military leader and places her at the centre of a bold new operatic work.

The opera blends history, myth, and spectacle, bringing Viking-era Britain to life for modern audiences.

Aethelfled challenges the stereotype of opera as distant or elitist by telling a visceral, cinematic story full of battles, power struggles, and moral stakes.

Influences span from Puccini’s emotional immediacy to the atmospheric and psychedelic textures of Pink Floyd, alongside classic rock and cinematic scoring.

The result is an opera that feels epic, immersive, and unexpectedly familiar, even for first-time opera-goers.

If you love epic storytelling, historical drama, or rock-influenced music, there’s something here for you.
