Carpathia - The Midnight Dash: Andrew Lound
Andrew is a nationally renowned expert in space and astronomy, but he also has many other interests, one of which is the Titanic. After many years of dedicated research, he is now recognised as one of the world’s leading authorities on the subject. His research into the Birmingham and Midlands’ connections of the Titanic has been extensive and led him to writing, directing and producing a stage show ‘1912: A Titanic Odyssey.’ For the Titanic Centenary Commemoration, he staged a large multimedia exhibition tracing the history of the ship with emphasis on its Midlands’ connections. He is, of course, also very knowledgeable about the tragic events leading to and following the sinking of this Ship on its maiden voyage.
Rather than retell the well-known story of the Titanic, this presentation will talk about attempts to rescue the passengers from the stricken “Unsinkable ship”. In any time of crisis, it often takes one person to come to the fore. In the case of the Titanic disaster, that man was Captain Rostron. With no procedures or prepared plan, Captain Rostron raced to the aid of the Titanic. The presentation shows how he inspired his crew to do their best and how he trusted them.
