Dragon sculpture trail to take over Wolverhampton next summer

The trail will support Compton Care

Wolverhampton will be home to a free public art trail next year, with 30 brightly decorated dragon sculptures set to appear around the city.

Trail of the Dragons will run for nine weeks, from 5 July to 5 September 2027. The sculptures, designed by regional and national artists, will be placed at key locations across the city.

The trail will support Compton Care, which provides specialist palliative care and bereavement support to people living with life-limiting conditions. It coincides with the charity’s 45th anniversary year, and the dragons will be auctioned at an event in October 2027 to raise funds.

Alongside the large dragons, 30 smaller “hatchlings” decorated by local schools and community groups will be displayed in indoor venues. An app and trail map will help people follow the route and take part, and each sculpture will be sponsored by a business.

Delivered by Compton Care in partnership with Wild in Art, and supported by City of Wolverhampton Council and Enjoy Wolverhampton, the trail will celebrate creativity, community and civic pride, while raising vital funds so Compton can continue supporting local people living with life-limiting conditions and their families.
