By Richard Bean

Based on The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni

With songs by Grant Olding

Starcross Theatre Company return to the Arena this autumn with their production of Richard Bean’s award-winning play, a glorious celebration of British comedy: laugh-out-loud satire, songs, slapstick and glittering one-liners. In essence, "One Man, Two Guvnors" is a fast-paced, comedic tale of mistaken identities, hidden agendas, and a resourceful servant trying to keep his masters from discovering his double life, all while navigating a world of love, lies, and mistaken identities.

Francis Henshall, a former skiffle band member, takes on two jobs simultaneously: one as a minder for Roscoe Crabbe, a small-time East End hood (who is actually Roscoe's twin sister Rachel in disguise), and another as a servant for Stanley Stubbers, Rachel's boyfriend who is hiding from the police. Francis must keep his two "guvnors" separate to avoid exposure. The play is a farce inspired by Carlo Goldoni's "The Servant of Two Masters," set in the swinging 1960s.
