Business Support

About WCR FM – Wolverhampton’s Radio Station

WCR FM is in its 40th year of providing a local radio service to Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas. It can be heard on 101.8 FM in Wolverhampton, DAB in Wolverhampton and Walsall, and everywhere online and via Smart Speakers “Play WCR FM”.

As a Community Interest Company, we are sustained by over 10,000 voluntary hours per year, regulated by OFCOM.  Although we are voluntary, we are not ‘amateur’, with many of our staff having current and previous professional experience. Our training and development priorities also mean that many of our volunteers go on to develop careers in various aspects of the media.

As we are a social enterprise (Community Interest Company), any revenue we receive from a business can be considered as making a social impact and part of a business’s social responsibility.

We believe our reach is around 50,000, which includes our listeners at home, in the car and as people walk through the Mander Centre (with its daily footfall of around 22,000). As we extend on to DAB networks across the Black Country and beyond, our reach is increasing.

How can we support each other?

Appear on the station!

There are many opportunities to be featured (free of cost) on WCR FM, not least our weekly Black Country Business Show and Podcast (working in partnership with the Black Country Chamber of Commerce).

Partner with us.

We are able to offer free advertising to organisations and businesses as part of a contra agreement in return for a service we need. We offer charitable bodies free advertising via our billboard service in exchange for hosting our logo on their website.

As a social enterprise, we are not for profit and can offer great values compared with commercial media organisations. Also, according to research, radio advertising is the best value for money (Read a Radio Today article about the benefits of radio advertising).

Become a patron.

Join Wolverhampton Homes, Wolverhampton College, etc, in supporting us for an annual charitable donation. As part of our relationship with you, we can offer bespoke support to your organisation, highlighting the work that you do.

Let us train you and your team in communication skills.

  • We can run sessions to develop confidence
  • We can help you get your message across
  • Here’s feedback from sessions delivered for Wolverhampton’s Public Health team:
    • I learned how to deliver a succinct, purposeful, clear radio message.
    • Felt very comfortable and ‘safe’ in being able to share messages.
    • I don’t sound as bad as I thought!
