Behind the Secret Door

Behind the Secret Door, Stories from the Shelves

We invite you to join our volunteers and take a seat amongst centuries of pages and spend an hour or two in good company. The library here at Weston is not a quiet monument to the past but a living room of stories.

Our volunteers work regularly on the books in the library and want to share these wonderful tomes with you. No prior knowledge required, no academic expectations.

Each session will open a door into a different corner of the library collection on a variety of themes and give a chance to chat.

Two sesions each day.

Through a fascinating collection of Bibles and Prayer Books and other devotional material we get a glimpse into the spiritual life of many members of the different families that have lived and worshipped locally from Weston Park.  From Mytton and Wilbraham to Newport’s and Bridgeman we  have books and bibles from the staunchly Anglican family that provided many generations of Rectors and Vicars to Churches linked to the family estates and further afield.  The glimpses can become interesting stories as we examine and handle those books together in the library at Weston Park.

Morning Session: 10am – 12noon

Afternoon Session: 1.30pm – 3.30pm

£15 per person (limited to 12 spaces on each session)

Please use the Visitor Entrance at TF11 8LE and meet your guide outside the Granary building 10 minutes before the session starts. We will then walk over to the House together.
