A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in Wolverhampton following a stabbing in Staveley at the weekend.
West Midlands Police said the boy was detained at an address in Whitmore Reans this morning on suspicion of wounding with intent. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.
The arrest follows an incident in Francis Street on Saturday (October 31), shortly before 8pm. Officers were told a group had been involved in an altercation, during which a firework was let off. A 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the arm.
Police said his injuries are not life-changing and he has since been discharged from hospital.
Officers say the arrest comes as part of Operation Redfox, which is focused on tackling violence in open spaces. Under the operation, police are carrying out regular high-visibility patrols and weapon sweeps. Schools teams are also visiting primaries, secondaries and colleges across the city to talk to young people.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We want our open spaces to remain places for everyone to enjoy and feel safe in and we are urging local people to support our work by sharing information they may have about local gang activity or crime across the city.”
Anyone with information can call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting Operation Redfox, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
