Wolverhampton LGBT+ has announced it has received National Lottery funding, revealing the news at a fundraising evening attended by the Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Paul Singh, and Wolverhampton South West MP Warinder Juss.

The event took place on Saturday 17th October at The Royal London pub in the city centre, and drew around 200 people over the course of the night. It combined entertainment with a raffle, which raised £665 for the charity.

Also attending were Natalie Queiroz MBE, Victims Advocate for the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, and Pliny Soocoomanee, a University of Wolverhampton alumnus and CEO of the Peter Tatchell Foundation.

Natalie Houston, Operations Manager at Wolverhampton LGBT+, said the evening was about celebrating the National Lottery funding and raising the organisation’s profile. She added: “We are here to serve and support the LGBTQ+ community across Wolverhampton and the wider Black Country. Going forward I want to build on this event and explore with the community how as an organisation we can build on and grow our services and support.”

Mr Juss said the charity “does brilliant work supporting LGBT+ people across Wolverhampton and the Black Country, bringing people together”, and that he looked forward to seeing its work “go from strength to strength”.

Councillor Singh described the charity as “a credit to the area”.

Tom Haire, owner of The Royal London, said it was “heart-warming to see so many people come together, feeling safe, comfortable, and free to be themselves”, and that the venue hoped to build a long-term partnership with the charity.

Wolverhampton LGBT+ thanked the businesses and organisations that donated raffle prizes, including Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wolverhampton Business Improvement District, The Qattery, BareVive Laser & Skin Clinic, The Company of Wolves Tattoo, The Rustic Food Shop, Tunwalls English Kitchen, Lupo Lounge, Meat Free Planet and Chill Scooter Skate Shop.
